HISTORY OF BOYNE VALLEY HOSTEL CORPORATION
Boyne Lodge has been supported by community volunteers since it’s beginnings in the 1960’s. A group of hard working dedicated visionaries “The Young Citizens Group” saw the need for a personal care home in Carman.
These volunteers knocked on doors, lobbied government and the result was the building of Boyne Lodge in 1967. The government funded the building cost, but all the furnishings were purchased with community donations. The land was donated by Anton Meuli.
Over the years, donations have supported the Boyne Lodge in many ways, from buying hairdressing equipment to building the beautiful 2nd floor sun room. All donations big and small have served to improve the lives of the residents of Boyne Lodge.
In 1998 when the Regional Health Authorities were formed, the Boyne Lodge was transferred from an independent entity to a RHA facility. At the time of the transfer, the outgoing Board of Directors formed BVHC (1998) Inc. to act as a liaison for the community and to hold and manage the donations and bequests received by Boyne Lodge and Boyne Towers.
Community members felt it was vital to ensure the community voices were heard and community donations were used to improve the lives of the residents of Boyne Lodge and Boyne Towers.
